What Makes the iPad Unique

The iPad was a one of a kind tablet device when it was first released. No other devices existed and no other tablet like devices was on the shelves of stores for consumers to choose from. When Apple CEO described this new device as magical, it truly was and still is.

I found it comical that many people, who commented on the device, mocked it by saying it was an over sized phone or it ouch device. While some found these comments amusing, my attention is focused on the fact that no other tablet device existed and other manufactures were scrambling to imitate (once again) Apple. We are about to end the third quarter of 2010 and still, no other device exists for consumers; this is what makes the iPad truly unique.

While the business world moves into the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2010 the competition promises to have devices for the consumer. Wow, Apply has a nine months head start on the competition and they are ready to release a second device at or around the holidays. Haws that for innovation and staying in the lead! It seems (since the launch of the iPod) other manufactures followed after Apple.

Apple pioneered the phone and the numbers in sales speak of their success; other manufactures follow suite to imitate something perfected by Apple. Although Apple experiences their share of problems with their phone 4, this article is about the iPad and successful devices that is still growing in sales. Other manufactures are trying to capture the market of consumers, yet to buy the iPad device.

Prior to the launch of this magical device and even a few years before the announcement, no tablet or slate devices existed. I find this remarkable. When it comes to technology, someone will always be an innovator, some one company or person will take the lead and developed a device or a process that no one else produced. With the success of the phone, look at the ripple effect, other smart phone manufactures are now following in the foot steps of Apple. It’s not about being Pro Apple, the facts and the reality of the sales speaks for itself.

One can read the reviews all day and listen to the negative spin that many will put on the devices turned out by this company, but my response is: Where is the competition? Wow… to my amazement they show up after nine months to get in the game.

How to Keep Your Computer Running Smooth and Quick

It occurred to me recently that as I spend a lot of time working on my computer, my machine’s speed and performance is very important to me. As a result I try to keep my computer in tip top condition.

This is quite easy for me but for anyone without any technical skills at all, I have put together this basic article to help you keep your computer running smooth and quick.

If you are using the internet a great deal or have someone else in your household who does it is very important to keep your firewall and antivirus software up to date. To do this click on “start” then “control panel” then double click automatic updates then highlight the automatic choice then click “apply” then click “OK.”

Again click start then control panel then windows firewall then insure the “ON” button is highlighted and click “apply.”

Next you should delete the temporary internet files and also clear your browser history. To do this click start then control panel then internet options go to the general tab hit the delete button.

Next run the defragmenter. Click start than “all programs” then “accessories” then “system tools” then “disk defragmenter.” Running this program may take up to a couple of hours depending on how long it has been since it was last run.

Next empty your recycle bin; this should be done on a regular basis.

Next run Scan Disc; click “start” then “my computer” then right click “local disc (c)” then “properties” the click the “tools” tab then click on “Check now” again this may take some time to run.

Now restart your computer and it should be running smoothly and quickly.

There are free tools and expensive tools that you can download online to do all these processes for you. It is not difficult to do a search for any of these.

Kite surfing Apps for the phone and iPad

With the continuing march of smart phones and their related apps into our lives I thought it was high time I had a look at some of the apps available to download onto your phone to find out whether they are useful or simply a waste of time and money. A quick search for “kite surf” in the iTunes store brings up several apps specifically designed with kite surfers in mind.

There are games, instructional apps, session log tools and podcasts all available for download for either a very modest fee or for free. Even if non of these are your particular cup of tea it is also worth bearing in mind that there are apps for most of the major wind forecasting sites out there as well, so now its possible to get the wind forecast straight to your mobile phone. Whether that makes the forecasts any more accurate I leave for something for you to find out. I’ve found in general it simply leaves me on the beach saying “but it’s blowing 15 knots now” looking at my phone while the flags stubbornly refuse to do what they’re told!

Some applications that did catch my eye were the instructional apps. These are basically full of hints and tips to correct mistakes you may be making in any particular move or drill, for example they give examples of potential problems and solutions to help you body drag more efficiently, ride upwind, or nail that first jump. While they lack much depth as they can deal in general terms only (the app already weighs in at an impressive 30Mb +) they are an interesting tool when things go wrong and you can’t work out why…at worst they can focus you on kite surfing and what you’re going to try next when the wind’s not blowing.
